Congratulations! Being engaged is such an exciting time and should be enjoyed to the fullest! Besides the obvious of telling friends and family, making it Facebook official and celebrating, here are five things we think are most important to think about after becoming engaged.
1. b R E A T H E
Getting engaged does not mean you have to start planning the wedding right away! You will get a lot of questions right off the bat, but take a couple weeks to let the news sink in and celebrate. No one expects you to have all your plans laid out right away. Savor the moment as you will have plenty of time to work out the wedding details in the next 12 months or so.
2. Insure your ring
We know its not the most exciting thing on this list, but it may be one of the most important! Your engagement ring is something you will wear for the rest of your life, so insurance can cover the cost in case of worst case scenarios. Often times you can loop your jeweler's insurance with your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy making it very inexpensive.
3. Think about a wedding date
There are many different things to consider when picking your wedding date. Many peak dates tend to book sooner than others. If you are thinking about getting married in the next year or two, it would be best to start thinking about a few dates that would work best for you and your fiance.
4. Determine your budget
We know budgeting isn't the most fun, but its pretty important. Before you start any planning at all, a budget is something you have to consider. Sit down with your fiance and determine what is most important to you. Also sit down with family to see if they would be willing to contribute to some aspects and work that into your budget. You will be thankful you have a fully crafted budget when searching for vendors for your big day.
5. Interview and hire a wedding planner
Hiring a planner is something you should seriously consider to handle logistics and save you money overall. Ask around for references, do some online research, and conduct some interviews. You should feel comfortable with your wedding planner so the decision shouldn't be taken lightly. A planner can be worth their weight in gold for the vendor referrals alone so its best to book them towards the beginning of your wedding planner if you think you will need the extra help.
